The PT boat was critical to the victory of the Allied Forces in the Pacific Theatre in WWII. The PT boat was fast and maneuverable . It could get in and out of sticky situations , make quick decisions and adapt to the ever changing war conditions.
Battleships though immensely more powerful were slow to turn and difficult to maneuver. By the time the battleship could turn and train it’s guns on the PT boat the PT was long gone.

The crew of the PT boat was small and dedicated to each other as well as to their mission which was ,at all times very clear to each of them. The crew of the battleship was large, impersonal, and only followed orders.
